ICP Printing and Graphic Arts Training Package Review

About this survey

The Manufacturing Industry Skills Alliance (Manufacturing Alliance) has engaged Cube Group (Cube) to support the review of the ICP Printing and Graphic Arts Training Package (training package).

The review is examining how the workforce and capability needs of the printing industry are changing, and the skills required in the industry now and into the future.

This survey has three parts and asks about:
1. You and your work / study
2. Your perspectives on the printing industry today
3. Your perspectives on the future of the printing industry

You do not need to be familiar with the training package to participate – we are interested in understanding your perspectives on the printing industry. The survey should take around 10 minutes.

The ICP Printing and Graphic Arts Training Package Review is an Implementation, Promotion and Monitoring (IPM) project that continues from the previous Training Package Development (TPD) project. It will identify options to strengthen national training products and better support the changing needs of the sector.

This review builds on earlier industry consultation, technical committee discussions and preliminary research, which found that a broader review of the ICP Training Package is needed to understand current industry requirements, emerging workforce needs and the future direction of training products across the sector.

The industry is changing quickly as technology, automation, digital production processes and business models continue to evolve. Job roles now often require workers to use a broader mix of equipment and technologies, including wide-format printers, CNC routers, laser cutters, engravers, and LED and illuminated signage systems.

Employing approximately 20,000 people across 5,000 businesses, the industry is characterised by a strong small-business presence, with more than 90% of enterprises employing fewer than 20 staff. This reinforces the need for adaptable, multi-skilled workers who can respond to changing technology and customer needs.The review will develop an evidence-based understanding of:

  1. the relevance and currency of existing qualifications, skill sets and units of competency;
  2. current and emerging workforce and skills requirements;
  3. the impact of technology, automation and digital production systems;
  4. future workforce capability and training needs; and
  5. opportunities to strengthen training products and pathways.

Consultation and evidence gathering will be undertaken nationally with employers, workers, industry associations, Registered Training Organisations (RTOs), equipment suppliers, manufacturers and other key stakeholders.

The findings will inform future workforce planning, qualifications reform and potential Training Product Development (TPD) activities.
