Penrith Museum of Printing ‘Rare Book Week’ speakers announced

 

In co-operation with the NSW State Library’s Rare Book Week 2025, the Penrith Museum of Printing is staging a free 2 hour session on Tuesday 21st October, from 1.30 - 3.30pm. Three speakers and topics have been announced as follows:

Jean Kropper – “The Curious Evolution of Book Structures” - Jean is an expert on paper engineering and bookbinding and runs ‘Paper & Pixel’ design studio. She is an internationally published author of three books including: Handmade Books and Cards, with Davis Publications and a volunteer at the Print Museum.

Andy McCourt – “Typography from Gutenberg to Google” Andy spoke at the 2023 Rare Book event, on Shakespeare and the Gutenberg 42-line Bible. This year he’ll cover the evolution of typefaces, from pre-Gutenberg to Google, MS, Adobe etc. including some surprises about Australian-made type founts.

Bob Lockley – “The Linotype: eighth Wonder of the World” Penrith Museum of Print’s President and former Fairfax/Rural Press CEO of Print & Distribution, Bob will reference the Museum’s early 20th century Linotype and Intertype machines and how they revolutionised newspaper and book production.
