Take The Jobs and Skills Australia Survey

Skill shortages are a significant and enduring challenge for the manufacturing sector. Since 2020, nearly half of all technical and trade occupations – the core of manufacturing – have been in shortage.

Demand for technical and trade skills is high; however, they take longer to develop and the number of people in training is not keeping pace.

Addressing this mismatch is fundamental to the Manufacturing Alliance’s work and why we are encouraging manufacturers to participate in a Jobs and Skills Australia survey about recruitment difficulties, candidate quality and regional conditions.

Why your participation matters

  • Your experience helps identify critical skills gaps across industries.
  • This survey will influence the 2026 Occupation Shortage List (OSL).
  • The OSL guides a number of Commonwealth programs including incentives for apprentices.

How to participate

  • Click on the survey link here.
  • Complete the questionnaire before 18 March 2026.
  • Please feel free to share the survey with your networks to support broad participation.

Your input will help ensure the 2026 OSL reflects the real challenges experienced across Australia’s labour market.
